Bella Mae 11-6-13

First things first, just got this in the mail in the beginning of November,

just in time for me to photograph the arrival of niece number two.

Here we go!

Annick's water broke Tuesday night and Bella wasn't in the right spot so I helped Annick with a few maneuvers to get Bella in the right place. But the peppermint Essential oil worked the best. We waited till Nicholas got home from work and Sophia's bed time which was around 9. After that we got everything into the car and off we were. I wasn't sure how long I could stay with Annick since they only allowed 2 people in the room. We finally got all set up in the room and waited for Bella to arrive.

 Excited daddy!
 Bella's heart rate
Bella wasn't making fast progress, but Annick was doing her best to stay out of bed, despite being tide to a heart monitor for Bella. But she persevered on and used that 2 feet x 2 feet space to sit on her birthing ball and stand. Annick's doctor wasn't in on Tuesday but he would be Wednesday morning, which was kind of downer. I mean you pick out a doctor and you actually like them and they aren't on call the day you go into labor? :D But obviously, Bella could still come with our with her mama's doctor... Around 3am Annick asked for a low dose of epidural just enough to still be able to know when to push. Well a couple hours later Annick got another dose but this time a different anesthesiologist was on call and gave her a bigger dose than the first, which made her more numb than she wanted. So, for the last couple of hours she was pretty much bed ridden slowing the labor a bit. The sun came up on Wednesday morning and still no Bella. At this point I was hoping Annick's doctor would get here in time to deliver Bella. Finally at 9am the doctor arrived all smiley and checked to see how far Annick was. 10cm, Bella was coming.

ALREADY!?!?! Haha, yep, and I was there for the whole thing. (Found out later that the '2 people only' rule was two people PLUS the mom! SCORE! ;)) But, let me tell you, it was one of most beautiful sites, watching my little niece come into the world. Something I hope I never forget. To see how God created the human body to work in such a miraculous way. We serve an awesome God.

So, with all that said, 17 minutes later Bella came into the world! Yeah, a whole 17 minutes! :D

Later, around 4 in the afternoon, Mimi, Allison, Evvie and Sophia came to the hospital. We've been telling Sophia about baby sister in mama's tummy for months now and she has been really excited to meet her new sister. We didn't know what to expect, but we felt sure Sophia would handle this well. Sophia knocked on the door to Annick's room and I went to answer it. There she stood, looking up at me with a smile, eye's full of curiosity and a little unsure of what to expect. I reached down and took her hand and said "Come on Sophia, lets go meet your baby sister."
Sophia saw Bella and I'm pretty sure things started clicking in her head that this was real!
